‘Lover’s Nightfall’ used to be written for the Lunenburg Academy of Tune Efficiency’s Composition Workshop in June 2018. I used to be tasked with writing a work based on the portray ‘Lover’s Nightfall’ by way of the American artist Craig Rubadoux. The portray is a semi-abstract portrayal of 2 fans. This is a whirlwind of colorful, dusk-lit power and it’s recreated on my personality’s violin.
When I used to be seeking to get a hold of what to do, my thoughts went straight away to a long-term courting which had lately ended. I started to mirror at the difficulties we have been having against the top. I learn thru my magazine entries from a few two-week length all over this tough time and I used to be struck by way of a couple of issues: the genuine-ness of my emotion, how dramatic (over-dramatic?) it used to be, and in addition how simply I’d transfer from mulling over the heartache to being concerned about my profession and the entire paintings I needed to do… in the similar run-on sentence… which, on reflection, I believed used to be hilarious.
With this in thoughts I determined to put in writing a work of musical theatre that might provide a mental portrait of a person wrestling with difficulties in his courting. I sought after to seize the real emotion and real-life drama I had skilled, push the melodrama excessive, whilst additionally poking amusing on the thought of melodrama, in addition to my previous self.
My resolution used to be to put a sad personality in an absurd global; the nature remains true to his heartfelt enjoy, whilst the sector round him turns into increasingly more absurd, deranged, and optimistically amusing(new york). It’s tragedy-dark comedy.
